Acorns

The Acorn classroom is a warm, welcoming environment where children take their first steps toward independence and begin forming meaningful friendships with the gentle guidance of caring teachers. Through predictable routines and supportive relationships, children develop confidence in separating from caregivers, expressing their needs, and participating in the rhythms at Spruce.

Beginning in September 2027, children in the Acorn program attend school three days a week, with schedule options determined by availability. The program is intentionally designed with developmentally-appropriate rest days between school days, giving young children time to recharge, process new experiences, and return ready to engage in another day of exploration.

Language development is integrated throughout the day through stories, songs, and conversations with teachers and peers. Children are exposed and become familiar with early literacy and numeracy concepts—including colors, letters, and numbers— naturally through hands-on exploration, play, and everyday routines. Books are an integral part of the daily rhythm, fostering a love of reading, and each child keeps a journal that captures their ideas, drawings, and early mark-making over the course of the year.

Physical development is equally valued. A climbing structure is a constant feature of the classroom, providing daily opportunities to build strength, coordination, and confidence. Outdoor play is an essential part of every day, whether children are exploring the Spruce playground or enjoying one of the nearby parks, where nature and the city become extensions of the classroom.
