Summer Program

For six weeks during July and August, Spruce offers a joyful summer program open to both current students and newly enrolled children. The summer experience provides a wonderful balance of indoor and outdoor exploration, giving children the opportunity to build relationships, continue learning, and enjoy the rhythms of school alongside familiar friends and new classmates. For children beginning at Spruce in September, the summer program offers a gentle introduction to the classroom environment, routines, and teachers; for returning students, it is a chance to reconnect, welcome new friends, and continue growing within the Spruce community.

Each summer, teachers introduce a few engaging themes that guide children’s exploration over two-week periods. Learning unfolds through hands-on activities, creative projects, stories, songs, and special events. Children spend abundant time outdoors on the Spruce playground and explore the city as an extension of the classroom through visits to nearby parks, including Clarendon Street Playground and the Tadpole Playground. From playing on the Boston Common fields to taking neighborhood walks in carts, children experience the unique richness of a city-based early childhood program.

The summer program is filled with opportunities for imagination, connection, and joy. Special visitors, such as Barn Babies and Musician’s Playground, bring new experiences and excitement to the classroom, while everyday moments—creating artwork, engaging in water play, reading favorite books, singing songs, and playing with friends—create lasting memories and strengthen the children’s sense of belonging at Spruce.
