Did You Know?

Spruce’s Morning Program is 1-2 hours longer than the average nursery school program. This additional time provides opportunities to visit nearby playgrounds, share lunch together and engage in deep, unrushed play with all of the children in the school.

Each day at Spruce begins with ninety minutes of mixed-age, free-play. The children are encouraged to interact with children beyond their own class and explore all of the spaces in the school, where purposeful provocations have been set-up for them. The variety and rotation of resources creates an engaging environment the whole year through.

Spruce has its own private playground, specifically designed for the ages we teach. In addition, we love to visit the nearby playgrounds of Eliot Norton, the Frog Pond and Clarendon Street so that our children have an opportunity to develop a range of gross motor skills.

We have a robust Enrichment Program for our Willows, Maples and Oaks (ages 3-5). Each afternoon, at least two activities are offered, providing a range of movement, creativity and inquiry. The choice of activities rotates every term, with three terms to choose from across a year. From tennis to theater, there is something for everyone.

Spruce is known for its community. We purposefully organize events for children and families to connect with each other. Each class has two sets of Class Parents whose primary role is to support new families and share key information with the class. Our families are very personable and are always happy to welcome our newcomers. Many families who met years ago at Spruce are still friends to this day!
